About Us

Fr Makewa Foundation (FMF) is a private non-profit international development agency which was founded by Rev Fr John Makewa as a charitable organization seeking to transform the lives of the needy, disadvantaged and the oppressed in the society. Fr Makewa is a Roman Catholic priest ordained on December 5, 1983 and has devoted his entire life in helping the needy in the society. As a result of his tireless work, Fr Makewa Foundation (FMF) was registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kenya in April 24, 2017, Registration. No. OP.218/051/17-016/10610 (As appendix I). FMF operations are guided by a vision statement which seek to establish a religion based society where suffering, tribulation and poverty will be eradicated from the human race. FMF works with people in poverty and distress to create a just and positive change through empowering partnership and responsible action. The core mandate of FMF is to meet the needs of the orphans, poor, sick, elderly, addicted and disabled people transforming their lives from suffering to a more meaningful productive lives in five counties in Kenya. I.e. Nairobi, Machakos, Makueni, Kitui and Kajiando.

For over three decades, Fr Makewa through his charitable work has implemented programs in education, water and sanitation, agriculture, small enterprise development, vocational education, general guidance and counselling and religious works across Kenya. During his 34 years of service to humanity, Fr. Makewa worked tirelessly in uplifting the lives of the needy. His efforts have seen establishment of the following;
Three high schools; Fr Makewa High school, Katangi High School and Kyua High School (all in Machakos County).
Two polytechnics; Kalyambeu and Katangi (In Machakos County)
Two primary schools; Kyusyani and St. Catherine primary schools (in Machakos and Makueni counties respectively)
Seven water boreholes;
Yumbuni borehole

Establishment of Community resource Centre for caving industry in Katangi.
Construction of a food Kikesa Market in Machakos County

Supported 416 Orphans in Secondary schools and 48 in university education

Currently, FMF is sponsoring 32 Orphans in Fr Makewa High School and 1 at Kenyatta University. All these works were made possible through contributions from well-wishers, people of good will and particularly the people of St. Joseph’s Parish Whetherby in Leeds Diocese United Kingdom.
